Your Privacy Choices

Take control of your data and privacy preferences. You can manage your information, request data exports, and control how we use your data.

Note: To manage your privacy choices, you need to be signed in to your AskAlong account. If you're not signed in, please download the app and sign in to access these features.

1. Access Your Data

You have the right to access all personal information we have collected about you. This includes:

  • Account information (email, profile details)
  • Your questions and AI-generated answers
  • Podcast listening history
  • Playlists you've created
  • Subscription and payment information
  • Usage data and analytics

How to Access:

  1. Open the AskAlong app on your device
  2. Go to Profile → Settings
  3. Tap "Export My Data" or "Request Data Download"
  4. We'll prepare a downloadable file with all your data

Data export requests are typically processed within 30 days.

2. Update Your Information

You can update your account information at any time:

In-App Settings:

  • Email Address: Profile → Account Settings → Email
  • Password: Profile → Account Settings → Change Password
  • Profile Information: Profile → Edit Profile
  • Notification Preferences: Profile → Notifications

3. Delete Your Data

You can delete your account and associated data at any time. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

⚠️ What Gets Deleted:

  • Your account and profile information
  • All your questions and answers
  • Podcast listening history
  • Playlists you've created
  • Usage data and analytics

What May Be Retained:

  • Information required for legal compliance (e.g., payment records)
  • Aggregated or anonymized data that cannot identify you
  • Data processed before your deletion request

How to Delete:

  1. Open the AskAlong app
  2. Go to Profile → Settings
  3. Scroll to "Account" section
  4. Tap "Delete Account"
  5. Confirm your decision

Account deletion typically takes effect within 30 days. You'll receive a confirmation email once the process is complete.

4. Manage Privacy Preferences

Control how your data is used and shared:

Data Collection Preferences

You can control certain data collection activities:

  • Usage Analytics: Profile → Settings → Privacy → Analytics
  • Voice Recording: Controlled via device permissions (iOS Settings / Android Settings)
  • Speech Recognition: Controlled via device permissions

Note: Some features may not work if you disable certain permissions.

Marketing Communications

Manage your email and push notification preferences:

  • Email Notifications: Profile → Settings → Notifications → Email
  • Push Notifications: Profile → Settings → Notifications → Push
  • Marketing Emails: Unsubscribe link in any marketing email

Third-Party Data Sharing

We use third-party services to provide the Service. You can control some sharing:

  • Analytics: Profile → Settings → Privacy → Analytics
  • AI Processing: Required for core functionality (cannot be disabled)

5. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights:

  • Right to Know: Request disclosure of what personal information we collect, use, and share
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information (subject to certain exceptions)
  • Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell your data)
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights

6. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights:

  • Right of Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Request limitation of how we process your data
  • Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to Object: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Request Processing

When you submit a privacy request, we will:

  • Verify your identity to protect your data
  • Process your request within 30 days (or as required by applicable law)
  • Notify you if we need additional time or information
  • Confirm completion of your request

We may need to verify your identity before processing certain requests. This helps protect your data from unauthorized access.

9. Changes to Privacy Choices

We may update this page from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of any material changes by posting an updated version in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date.
